Many people want to argue that antisemitism is a universal and continuous thing, from which we've merely enjoyed a brief break for the last few decades, since the Holocaust. In this session, Clive will try to take a more precise historical overview of anti-Jewish hostility over the last millennia and ask whether or not it will 'always be with us'. Was the shock of October 7th a blip in this regard, was it a return to the usual course of events, or did it inaugurate a 'new normal'?
Co-founder of Limmud, Clive was its Executive Director for many years and was instrumental in helping Limmud come to Germany (as well as to most of its current 90+ locations).
Extremely proud of his big brother, who does nearly everything he can do, but better(!), he looks forward to another opportunity for them to disagree in public.
Clive was honoured by the late Queen for services to education and the Jewish community. He has been a High School principal, a governor of the Metropolitan Police in London, an adviser to the UK government on Race Equality issues, Chair of a hospital board and has broadcast and published widely, with about a dozen books to his name.
He is currently Executive Chair of the Commonwealth Jewish Council, a Presiding Justice (Magistrate), chairs Health Service tribunals and still occasionally continues with his worldwide educational development consultancy work. He is considered a leading light in the field of inter-faith affairs.
