01/05/2026 –, (EG) Büren Idioma: English
The title has a double meaning - in English at least - and we shall explore both.
'What are Jews for?' could mean what is our purpose, why do we exist? But it can also mean 'What do we support?'
We all know what Jews oppose - anti-semitism etc - but what should we fight for, rather than against? And anyway, why bother at all? Do the Jews have a purpose or are we just going on because we're here already? We work very hard at surviving but to what end? Clive will discuss both issues.
Co-founder of Limmud, Clive was its Executive Director for many years and was instrumental in helping Limmud come to Germany (as well as to most of its current 90+ locations).
Extremely proud of his big brother, who does nearly everything he can do, but better(!), he looks forward to another opportunity for them to disagree in public.
Clive was honoured by the late Queen for services to education and the Jewish community. He has been a High School principal, a governor of the Metropolitan Police in London, an adviser to the UK government on Race Equality issues, Chair of a hospital board and has broadcast and published widely, with about a dozen books to his name.
He is currently Executive Chair of the Commonwealth Jewish Council, a Presiding Justice (Magistrate), chairs Health Service tribunals and still occasionally continues with his worldwide educational development consultancy work. He is considered a leading light in the field of inter-faith affairs.
